Zionist games

"During recent months, children in the southern town of Rahat, near Be'er Sheva, have taken up a new and cruel pastime - burning dogs alive." (thanks Dan)

But they are Bedouins in Rahat, aren't they? Incidentally I lived for a year with Israeli Bedouins in the West Bank and they have a certain attitude towards animals that I would define as not very nice. Shooting stray dogs, cutting ears to puppets and such stuff. Though in the case of cutting ears to puppets there was a certain rationale behind it, because, or so they they claimed, it makes more vigilant as guards (my observation was that it turned a puppet into a psycho who since then refused to show up from his den at daylight.)

As disgusting and horrific as this story is, one needs to wonder, what's his point?

Angry Arab Idiot is gonna kick himself when he finds out that Rahat is a Bedouin town whose population voted overwhelmingly for the Ra'am-Ta'al (Islamic Movement and Tibi) in the last national elections. "Zionist Games" is a total total misnomer of a headline. Will Angry Idiot change the headline to read "Arab Animal Cruelty" ? I highly doubt it, and I actually think that such a headline would be just as inappropriate as "Zionist Games". Animal cruelty is unfortunately universal and you can find kinds who kill or torture dogs almost everywhere, especially if their deeds go unpunished.

Nobody and Charlie - As Canuckistan surmised, I posted this excerpt because the headline, "Zionist games," was so incongruent with the case at hand. It shows the willful ignorance of the Angry Idiot. I doubt that he will kick himself though, because he is actually proud of his lack of interest in and knowledge of "Zionist society."

Amos, I was trying to allude to Canuckistan's point, albeit, less eloquently. That anyone would post this article as representative of a people, a group or an ideology is at best, I think, ignorant.

Taking into consideration your point that the Angry Arab has no interest in "Zionist Society" (which can't be totally right, because he posted the article!) and reading the article which indicates that this horror was carried out in a Bedouin area, I'm inclined to think Angry Arab is willfully ignorant, which is intolerable.

Perhaps if he visited the camel market at Birqesh, north of Cairo he would write about the cruely of Bedouin, Sudanese and Egyptians to their camels, which are beaten mercilessly, hobbled and crammed into lorries for transporation to slaughter. Perhaps if he focused more on articles about the positives in his and "Zionist" society, he'd be a bit less angry.

There is only one thing I don't understand and this is what this person is doing in the academy. Basically I hold modern social and political sciences to be mostly pseudo science par excellence. Still, 99% of his stuff is such an unintelligent nonsense. What he is doing in Berkley and elsewhere? Who is paying him money to employ him as a professor or whatever?

hey guys, actually kids who tend towards abusing animals in such a grotesque and extreme manner have a sociological tendancy to progress to using the same behavious with adults ( ie. homicides, serial killings). Add in the political situation to the mix and we're going to be looking at an explosive mix 10 years from now. My advice to the municipality would be to step in quickly for the sake of the animals, the kids and the community.

Smurfette, not sure of "sociological tendency" is the right word, but I know what you mean: exceptional cruelty to animals is sometimes/often (?) indicative of psychopathic/anti-social behaviour. We've all heard about serial killers and violence addicts who started out killing animals. Fair enough. What I don't really understand is your glib sentence about adding the political situation to the mix, etc. Do you think, based on this one article, that the Bedouin town of Rahat will be the source of a new cohort of violent political activists? Serial killers? I think that would probably be a stretch.
