Carter Book Reviews

I've come across a round-up of reviews of Carter's new book, whose imbecilic title is Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid on the CAMERA website. We've had posts dealing with the apartheid lie in the past. It's regrettable that Carter has now joined the ranks of those on the left who are engaged in a global campaign to gradually chip away at Israel's legitimacy to exist as a Jewish state.

I am reading the Carter book and am not quite sure if that was his aim or the focus of the book.

One review, from the "American Thinker," that I found from TNR, damns but the book, but also gives you Carter in his own words, which as Marty Peretz says, are damning enough themselves:

This sounds like garbage, but I have to agree with Ahmed, it doesn't seem from the text in that review that Carter is denying Israel's right to exist. It sounds like he needs to let out to pasture. Also, I'm curious, does he actually address the "apartheid," or is that just to sell books?

How are you going to tell me that referring to Israel as a state engaged in apartheid does not chip away at its legitimacy to exist?

I heard a spokesman for Carter (or maybe it was the Pres himself, I can't remember) come out and say that the point of the book is to argue against the "potential" of Israel's devolution into an apartheid state. As far as I can tell from what people are saying, Carter doesn't spend much time drawing actual parallels between Israel and old South Africa, and at the end of the text he even denies the legitimacy of analogizing. Whatever. I'm with Noah, sounds like a real sneaky marketing move to me.
